Happy Friday Scrappy Friends. We are at the tail end of a fall break from school, and my kids and I have definitely had some fun. We started getting our house ready for fall by decorating, ordered Halloween costumes, put in lots of play time and took a trip to the Reid Park Zoo to see three lion cubs who were recently born! Missing My Dad

I'm having a pretty rough week. "Life" stress seems to have hit an all time peak here at our house. We're making the best of it, and making sure our kids don't feel it...but it's not good around here lately. But on top of that, Monday marked six weeks that my Dad passed away.

It's so strange to me how much more real it feels now. When I got the call, I of course bawled my eyes out until I couldn't even see. But when I got to Washington and helped set up the reception and all the photo boards and helped Fern prep food for the funeral...it was almost surreal.

But now the reality is setting in. I can't pick up the phone and call him and hear his voice on the other end say, "Hey Babydoll". I can't get up and email him every day like I did before. The way he would say "Oh geez" and kind of laugh/snort when I'd say something funny. Or the way he would say "Well, you know..." before giving me good advice. Or never seeing him in his red apron cooking something amazing like lamb or steak again.

I really thought that since we knew that he was terminal, and that we had a sort of time line, that I had already started my grieving process. But I was very wrong.

My Memories Software Suite Giveaway!

Hey scrap chickies! I have something that I think is really exciting to share with you! The other day I opened my email to find an invitation from My Memories to try their digital scrapbooking software in exchange for a review of the product...AND...a copy of the software suite to give away.

I've been digital scrapbooking since early 2008, and I've used many different kinds of software to create pages,so I was interested to see how My Memories scrapbooking software worked. I went to the sight and the first thing that impressed me right off the bat, was the selection of products available to create albums and pages, not to mention the impressive list of designers: K Studio, Meredith Cardall, Mye De Leon, Vera Lim, Lindsay Jane and so many other designers that I admire! Prices range from .99 to about 5.99, they also have lots of really nice items for free.

The checkout, download and installation process were very easy and fast. I opened up the software thinking I would just breeze through it, but I had no idea how to use it! Luckily I found some awesome video tutorials on their blog, that were fun and informative and I was ready to create my first page. When you first open the program, there are some nice pre-made templates to help you set up a page, or options to create your own layer by layer.

To be completely honest, I do not care for the items (papers and embellishments) that come with the software. They have a very digital look, and I prefer a more realistic look. So I decided to hit up my own stash. I quickly and easily created my first page:

It was pretty easy to use, and is pretty comparable to a lot of programs I have used. You can resize, crop, shadow and rotate items though I did have some trouble figuring out how to work with my layers. My other, very small critique is about shadowing. Let me start by saying that I am a bit of a shadow-a-holic, they are my favorite part of creating a layout. There are some nice shadow functions like being able to control the opacity and depth and even the color of your shadow, there was even a warp tool. But personally, I am not a 120 degree scrapper, and I know a lot of non-120 degree scrappers, so it would be nice to control that, or even shadow in a separate layer...but overall, it's good. In the end I was pretty happy with the end result.

I decided to go ahead and give it another try and make a birthday card for my son Jacob who turned 7 this weekend:

Other coolio things you can do are make photo books, add music and audio, make videos and there are some cool sharing functions available with the software as well.

NEW kit, In The History of Ever and a FREEBIE

Wow! What a week. I totally meant to get on here earlier in the week, and share some photos and scrapbook pages...and then after sending my 4 year old to his room following a pretty bad tantrum I heard screaming and "mommy mommy" I ran in to see what was going on, and his window was broken and his hand was bloody.

We rushed to Urgent Care and were there for at least 4 1/2 hours. My little Bubba had to get stitches in his wrist :( and the radiologist who did the x-ray said we were lucky because he just BARELY missed both of the arteries in his little arm. Seems his guardian angel, or my Dad must have been watching over him that day.

Capturing Your Childs Personality

Sometimes, not very often, I like to stage photo shoots. I'm nowhere by any means a professional or even close to it, photographer. I use a little point and shoot! I like photographing the every day, the little moments around our house, or things that make me laugh or that I really want to remember.

But there are times that I think, "I'm gonna dress the kids up in __________, and we are going to go outside and take photos and they are going to be amazing!" And they never turn out amazing. They look staged, and no one is having fun.

For Christmas my mom gave Jacob this crazy dragon hat. It's really funny and silly, and it just hangs on a hook in his room. So, I had this wild idea to make Jacob run around the yard with his shirt off, wearing this hat...kind of like a Where The Wild Things Are photo shoot. I thought he might get really into it, since we love that book. But somewhere in the last year or so, he has lost a little bit of that childish reckless abandon and has become a bit self conscience and easily embarrassed. So needless to say, there were no Terrible Roars or Terrible Claws being shown to me (except when his little brother Braden put on the hat, he was all about roaring at me!)

I snapped away, trying to dictate the photo shoot. "Roar at me, show me your claws, run around the yard like a wild animal....." I knew I was getting some cute pics of him and Braden, so I would have some scrapping material, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted.

Later that night, I loaded the pictures up:

And then I saw this one:

And THIS is exactly right. I captured Jacob! And I realized I got the perfect shot after all. A little shy, a little coy and a little mischevious...that's my Jacob.

And here is the scrapping I got out of it, and I am semi-obsessed with double page layouts right now too! I decided to call it Wild Boy :)

Making a few changes

I've decided to make a few changes that I have been thinking about for awhile. I figured since the rest of my life is in such a state of change, that maybe now is the time. I've decided to get back to being more "personal". For awhile I had my entire CT team doing all my blog posts, my ads, my Facebook posts...and probably more. And I started to feel like I never knew what was going on, and I felt like something was getting lost in all of it...ME!

So, I'm taking it all back over. And getting a bit more personal if you dont mind. Each Friday of course I will post the New Release ad and layouts from my awesome team. But once or twice a week I plan to get back on here and post pictures, layouts or events going on in my life and what have you. Hope you won't mind :)

So to start things off, I am going to do a little recap of the going's on around here.

Summer is in full swing, my salsa garden is planted and growing, my berries are ripe and ready for picking!

With the kids out of school, I try to find fun little things to do each day. Mud has been popular! Bubbles and swimming in the kiddie pool. Art. Smores nights. What are you doing this summer?

I just got back a couple of weeks ago from Washington where I attended the funeral services for my beautiful father who recently passed after a long fought battle with cancer. The service was beautiful, and I got to see and catch up with all my sorely distant relatives.

So, that's my changes. I hope you enjoy what is to come!

March 6-12 Challenge!

Hi there! Helen here to start this week off with a fun, non-speed scrap! In the process of creating your page you will also get to know Amy a little more! I will list 7 instructions for you to follow and you have until Saturday, March 12th at NOON Eastern time to complete your layout using Amy Stoffel products and upload it to a gallery of your choice. Then, you must come back here and leave a comment on this blog post with a link to your layout in order to eligible for a special gift from Amy!

Here are your instructions:

1. Amy has two sons, therefore, choose 2 papers for your background. They can be solid, patterned or a combination of both.

2. Since this is Amy’s 2nd Designaversary you need to have 2 photos in your layout (can be same photo duplicated or 2 different photos).

3. Amy lives in the southwestern portion of the US so the majority of your design has to be in the lower left quadrant of your layout. You may have a little cluster elsewhere but it must be obvious the largest part is in the lower left corner.

4. Amy wears her hair straight but it is naturally wavy/curly so I want to see at least 1 straight ribbon and 1 wavy/curled element such as a swirl or string on your page.

5. Amy spends 4 to 6 hours per day designing so I want to see between 4 and 6 different elements on your page.

6. Amy’s favorite color is red so I want to see some red on your page.

7. Amy’s favorite number is 17 so I want to see at least 17 words of journaling on your page.

**Add a title, date and any other elements to your page your desire.

I have a lot going on in my personal life that I really don't want to share with the entire world :) I posted a notice that I was pairing down my friends list to family, co-workers and people I have been friends with in real life or online for a long time.

But I realize that not everyone saw the notice, so I am hoping there aren't too many hurt feelings out there. It was not my intent, and I didn't delete anyone because I don't like them or anything silly like that!

But I also enjoyed keeping in touch with everyone, and light hearted chitter chatter so I created a page where I can keep in touch with you all, and still maintain my privacy on my other page.

What's Cooking...Dessert Style!

Let's bake an apple crisp! This dessert is a wonderful go to for the colder weather days. I know the kids and I had a wonderful time making it together! First you will need:

8 apples
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 egg
1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/4 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon butter, melted

1.)Mix together flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and egg. The mixture will look like cornmeal.

2.)Peel, core, and slice the apples. Mix together with 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon. Place apples in a greased 8 inch square pan. Spread flour mixture over the apples. Mix together 1 tablespoon cinnamon and 1/4 cup sugar; sprinkle over the top of the crisp. Drizzle with butter or margarine.

3.)Bake at 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) for one hour. Serve warm.

Hi everyone! JackieAnn here to welcome you to my little scrapping paradise~! My ~space~ is actually my daughter's old room...hence all the ballet photos and pointe shoes =) It's taken me a few years to organize things and figure out what works best for me. The best way to explain it is to just show you around , because when I am sitting at my desk, everything is just a few feet away and ready to scrap with!

The dresser is still filled with some of my daughter’s things, so I use the space on the top to store scrapbooks I am working on, or that I want to showcase.

Next to the dresser are several cropper hoppers and storage files, each labeled according to what's inside.

The Cropper Hoppers hold all my stickers and embellishments, labeled and divided by color.

The storage files contain scissors, pens, pencils, foam stamps, punches and other miscellaneous items.

On top of the storage files are some boxes that contain all my paints. These are former ~card kit~ boxes that I stripped down and painted to match the room decor.

Along one wall is a book shelf that contains some mini-albums, ribbons, beads and brad storage. I used to keep all my scrapbooks in this room. But after we had to evacuate due to a rapid approaching fire, I now keep all the family albums in a bookcase downstairs so we can just grab and GO instead of running up and down the stairs in a panic.

This shows the inside of one of the ribbon scrap storage boxes, again divided by colors.

These large canvas boxes are part of a scrapbook storage system by Lisa & Becky, but I bought them about 5 years ago and I don't think they are available anymore. But I love them and the color...I'm all about blue =)

I use them to store the premade kits I get from Scarlet Lime & Mosh Posh.

Next to that is a horizontal paper storage rack. This is for my patterned paper and it is labeled and divided by manufacturer, since I do tend to buy along the same paper lines.

Directly across the room is a horizontal paper storage file that holds all my cardstock. These are divided by color as most of my cardstock is Bazzill Basics.

In the closet(besides all the pointe shoes) are more of the Lisa & Becky Scrapbook Storage systems. The rectangular hanging file holds all my commonly used stamps, inks, chalks and embossing powders. The other hanging folders hold papers, most from Club Scrap, which I have divided by kit name.

Next to the closet is my ~desk~ It's actually an antique vanity but it works =) It sits in the perfect spot in the room as it gets direct sunlight all day long. In the Club Scrap boxes to the side are all the photos and papers, embellishments that I have pulled and organized and are ready to be put into a my next scrapbook.

Also on the desk is my Croppin Cutie which holds all my most commonly used supplies, like my Herma adhesive dispenser, scissors, chalk, corner rounder and paper trimmer.

Above my desk are my Martha Stewart ribbon holders. Notice they are blue =) But I like how the ribbons hang down and add to the color and decor of the room. hmmm...looks like I need some more pink ribbons! Oh I also did the stenciling along the wall...just another hobby =)

To the left of my desk are more Lisa and Becky Scrapbook Storage boxes.
These hold blank cards and envelopes just waiting to be created with.

And let's not forget the photos! These are storage boxes from Michael's that are divided by year and inside the photos are divided by month and occasion. Yes I am old school and I still print out all my digital photos =)

This little notepad from my daughter also sits on my desk and it is a daily reminder to laugh and enjoy the creative process. I hope you enjoyed this tour around my little scrapbooking paradise and please let me know if some of my organizational ideas helped you get organized and scrapping more~!

How long have you been scrapping?
Since August 2010

Did you start out as a digiscrapper?
Yes. I dabbled at paper scrapping in 2003, got some supplies, but never did a full layout. I think I still have those wavy scissors somewhere.

What program do you use?
PSE8

What is your design process?
I'm getting my scrapping done by doing lots of challenges. I get inspiration from the challenge. So it depends on what I need to do, what story I want to tell. The first thing is photos. I choose those first, then find a kit that will complement them. From there, it's not set in stone. Background paper, then photo, then elements. Usually.

What brought you to Scrap Matters?
I really can't remember. But some of the designers I am familiar with are here, so I kind of followed them! Or maybe from the Daily Digi? But once I found it, I stayed!

What about Amy's kits attract and/or inspire you?
Definitely the colors. They match well, they are bold and vibrant, and there is lots of contrast too.

What is your favorite kit of Amy's?
I can only pick one? [notice how this seems to be a reoccurring problem =)] I mean really, her kits are great! I really like her new playlist set. Teenage Dream and Use Someone

Then the kit Captivated by you is a close second.

What is your favorite layout using one of Amy's kits?
Sisters by Scrapper@heart. I love the clustering. And it doesn't distract from the awesome photo. Great job.

Do you have specific elements that you always put on a page?

I am a Stay at home mom of 6 kids. My oldest will be turning 18 in a few months and will be a Marine in bootcamp in July (If he gets it together and graduates!) I have 4 boys and 2 girls. My youngest son is almost 3. I am happily married for 7 years. Besides scrapping, I love to knit, read, write stories, and watch movies. My dream is to own our own house in the country where I can homestead and grow our own food. chickens, goats, a garden.

Happy Friday everyone! Carrie here to bring you a look at Amy's latest releases. I know that you will just fall in love with them.

First up is Charlotte and Oliver. This kit is loaded with the softest colors and realistic baby elements.

And to go along with the baby theme, she's created some amazing overlays that you see on a few of the papers in the Charlotte and Oliver kit.

If you are a template lover, like myself, you are going to love what Amy has done with some templates. She's taken four layouts created by Helen, one of her amazing chickies, and created an awesome template pack!

MEET AMY's SCRAPPING CHICKLET - HELEN

Hi everyone. It's Di here, and I'm here to spotlight one of Amy's newer CT girls Helen. We have two Helen's on the team now, and there is a standing joke in the team that this is the 'other' Helen. But this Helen is just as important as our other Helen. Anyway, here's all the details about Helen Slater.

So I asked Helen a couple of questions:

Which product of Amy's is your favorite?
Helen loves one of my new Amy favourites which is Fresh Start. Helen says: I love her newest kit A fresh Start I love the colours, the meaning behind the kit, and I love how my page turned out with this kit!

And here's Helen's page from that kit.

I asked Helen to tell us something about her that no one else knows (but everyone will know after this). She said: I really badly want to visit America!! No one knows this (apart from my partner who still won't take me !!!! ) I want to attempt to go all over America and visit all different places!!

And lastly, I asked what is your favourite holiday and why? She said: Christmas!!! Just because everyone is happy all at the same time and sharing and laughing and eating lots of yummy food.

Happy 2nd day of the new year!!! I hope you all had a blessed holiday and rang in the new year with style! Today I am here to spotlight someone from Amy's gallery of layouts: kimbytx

Let's get to know Kim a little better! First, just to let you know, Kim is on the Scrap Matters site creative team (but, I didn't realize that when I chose her for this post).

How long have you been scrapbooking digitally?
Since January 2007 when one of my friends won a design contest and put me on her CT. Before that I made digital signatures for Message Boards.

What is your favorite kit by Amy?
Poprox and Lollipops. It is so fun and colorful! Although I love all of her various girly kits in her store.

Do you have a favorite layout with one of Amy's kits?
I got GSO for this one at DST using Amy's Captivated by You kit:

What is it you love so much about Amy's designs?
I love her use of color. She is not afraid to use bold colors and her color schemes always flow so well. I also think she has adorable elements in every kit that make them shine. I especially love her doodle flowers and button paper circle stacks.

What are the top 3 elements you find you use on page after page?
flowers, buttons and ribbons.

Do you prefer patterned or solid paper for your background paper?
I tend to use solids for my backgrounds but like to add patterned papers in stacks.

Is there any type of kit you hope Amy will do in the future....specific theme or color scheme?
I would love to see a modern girly kit with black, bright colors like neon green and hot pink and zebra print. Maybe even some Peace signs. Those are things my 9 yo daughter is really into right now.

What program do you use to scrap your pages?
Photoshop CS3

Just to be silly, tell us something about yourself that most people think is quirky.
My real life friends think my scrapping and online life is quirky. lol

What's Cooking?...Baked Mac n Cheese

Mari here bring you this is recipe that we make pretty often around here. My son is a mac and cheese freak and this is the way I can eat it with him. Its basic and easy. One thing you need to know about my cooking, I don't really measure, I just kinda dump stuff in, so I hope it works for you. First, here's the ingredients you need.

First thing you do is, boil the noodles. I use half of a box of 32 ounce box of elbow noodles.

When they are done, drain them!

Next up, in a sauce pan, add 2 cups of milk, 1/4 cup of flour, 1/4 cup of margarine and the cheese! I add about 3/4 a bag of cheddar and 1/2 bag of colby jack. Its much better when you combine cheeses. Cook until its all nice and melted together.

After its all done, pour it on top of the noodles in an oven safe dish. I normal bake it about 20 minutes.

After that, I broil it for about 5 minutes. It gives it that bit of texture and makes it to me. Big hit around here for all ages.

What's Cookin? .... One Dish Chicken!

Hey there everyone. Rachel here with this week's What's Cookin, Wednesday :)

This recipe is a tried and true favorite in my family handed down to me from my 'pseudo' grandmother, Miss Millie. She was the one who taught me how to cook when I was in my teens. Each summer day, I'd go to her house and we'd prepare lunch and dinner for her husband and my parents. It was an amazing learning experience and more over a 'life' experience that I wouldn't trade for the world. Every time I make this dish, I think of her!

So, this is really easy !!

One Dish Chicken

3-4 boneless chicken breasts
2 cans of Cream of Celery Soup (can use other cream soup if you prefer)
5-6 potatoes (skinned and cut up into eighths)
1-1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese

First, preheat oven to 375 degrees. Then you grease the bottom of a 9x13 pyrex dish.

Place all the cut up potatoes in the bottom of the dish. Spoon the two cans of soup over top of the potatoes as evenly as you can. It doesn't have to be neat at all, or spread in any way. It will cook down into the potatoes.

Lay the cleaned and chicken breast pieces on top of the potatoes. I cut each breast in half to quicken cooking time.

Sprinkle generously with Lawry's Garlic Salt & freshly cracked pepper to your taste.

Lastly, you will cover the chicken with the shredded cheese. You can alternate cheese if you prefer another type. I use cheddar and sometimes a blend of Mozzarella and Cheddar.

Put it in your oven and bake it for about one hour covered, then uncovered for another 15-20 minutes. I always check my chicken & potatoes to make sure they are done.

Serve with your favorite veggie!
